TikTok Shop with Shopify in Germany: Setup, Fees and Sync

In short: TikTok Shop has been available in Germany since March 31, 2025 and in Austria since June 2026; Switzerland is not included so far (as of October 2026). You connect it via the free TikTok app in the Shopify App Store. Orders then land in Shopify, while you handle refunds in TikTok Seller Center. Since January 8, 2026, TikTok generally keeps a 9% sales commission in Germany.

Connecting TikTok Shop with Shopify sounds like a few clicks. In practice, many merchants get stuck on verification, on products that won't sync, or on the question of whether it pays off at all after commission. Here you'll learn what TikTok Shop is, what it costs, how setup works in Germany and how to grow on TikTok even without an ad budget. This article is part of the overview Shopify marketing: how to get your first sales.

TikTok Shop, TikTok ads, link in bio: the difference

There are three ways to sell with TikTok and Shopify. They aren't mutually exclusive, but they work differently. In comments, people often mix them up.

RouteWhere does the purchase happen?CostsFits if …
TikTok ShopDirectly in the TikTok app; the order is passed to ShopifyCommission per saleyou can ship quickly and want to use creators or live shopping
TikTok adsIn your Shopify store; the ad leads there with a clickAd budgetyou have a budget and want to bring customers into your own store
Organic videos + link in bioIn your Shopify storeTimeyou produce content regularly and don't have a budget yet

The key difference: with TikTok Shop, TikTok owns the checkout. The money goes through TikTok, and so do customer data and returns. With ads and link in bio, the customer lands in your store, you get the email address and can follow up later with a newsletter. In all three cases, Shopify remains your hub for products, inventory and orders. How this works with other channels such as Instagram, Amazon or eBay is covered in the article Shopify POS & multichannel.

Availability in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

  • Germany: Since March 31, 2025, businesses have been able to sell here via TikTok Shop (Händlerbund (German)). According to the Shopify Help Center, Germany is one of the countries where your store location may be for the TikTok Shop integration.
  • Austria: According to the TikTok Newsroom (German), TikTok Shop has been available there since June 15, 2026, together with Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland. When we checked, Austria was not yet on the country list in Shopify's help center. If your company is based in Austria, check before you start whether the Shopify integration has already been enabled for you.
  • Switzerland: Switzerland is not among the markets TikTok named in this announcement. We don't know of a launch date.

TikTok Shop is organized by country. Don't expect a German TikTok Shop to automatically sell across the whole EU; Seller Center shows you whether and how you can unlock further markets.

What TikTok Shop costs

There is no base fee. TikTok earns on every sale. Since January 8, 2026, the sales commission in Germany has been 9% instead of the previous 5%, and 7% for electronics. According to a Händlerbund report (German), new sellers pay 4% for 60 days under certain conditions, for example if they upload at least five products within the first 15 days. TikTok can change its fees with 30 days' notice. The binding rates are in TikTok Seller Center.

On top of that, there may be affiliate commissions for creators who promote your product. You set the rate yourself.

Example calculation (sample values)Own store (link in bio)TikTok Shop with creator
Selling price incl. VAT€29.90€29.90
Payment fee (store assumption: 2.1% + €0.30)− €0.93included in the commission (assumption)
TikTok sales commission 9%–− €2.69
Creator affiliate 15% (freely chosen)–− €4.49
Deduction per sale€0.93€7.18

Whether the commission is calculated on the gross or net price and whether payment fees are charged separately is something to check in your Seller Center. The table only shows the order of magnitude: TikTok Shop costs more per sale, but in return brings reach you would otherwise have to buy at a high price. Whether that works with your margin, you can calculate with the article Pricing for your online store.

Requirements

According to the Shopify Help Center, you need:

  • a Shopify online store and a TikTok for Business account,
  • a store location in a supported country (including Germany) with a verifiable address under "Locations",
  • a page with your return policy in the online store,
  • products that meet the TikTok product policies for your country.

TikTok is stricter about products than your own store. What is generally prohibited in Germany or only sellable under conditions is covered in the article Prohibited and regulated products; TikTok's list often goes further.

In addition, TikTok asks for proof of your business during verification. Merchants report being asked for their trade registration (Gewerbeanmeldung) or commercial register extract (Handelsregisterauszug), an ID document and a business bank account. A personal TikTok account isn't enough. According to Händlerbund, you don't need a minimum number of followers as a business; minimum follower counts only apply to creators who want to earn affiliate commissions. If you haven't registered a business yet, the article Registering a business for your online store will help.

If ID verification keeps failing

  • Name and address must be spelled exactly as on your ID and trade registration, including umlauts and middle names.
  • Photograph your ID without a cover, in daylight, without glare, with all four corners visible.
  • The store address in Shopify must match the one in your proof of business. Shopify also notes: the location name may be no longer than 35 characters, and the address should match Google Maps.
  • Enter your VAT ID (USt-IdNr.) in the format DE plus 9 digits, without spaces. The tax number (Steuernummer) from your tax office is something else and will be rejected in this field. If you're a small business under the small business rule (Kleinunternehmer) and don't have a VAT ID yet, you can apply for one free of charge at the Federal Central Tax Office (Bundeszentralamt für Steuern) (German).

On the minimum age: according to Shopify's terms of service, even a Shopify account in Germany requires you to be of legal age, i.e. 18.

Connecting TikTok Shop with Shopify: step by step

This is how the Shopify Help Center describes the setup:

  1. In the Shopify admin, open Settings > Sales channels and click "Shopify App Store".
  2. Search for TikTok (developer: TikTok) and choose "Add sales channel". Use the official app, not a third-party solution.
  3. On the "Set up TikTok Shop" page, click "Connect" in the TikTok Shop section.
  4. Log in with your TikTok for Business account or register as a new seller.
  5. Review the TikTok Shop seller terms and confirm with "Connect".
  6. Under "Shop information", click "Verify" and upload the documents.
  7. Click "Complete setup" and wait for TikTok's review.

If the connection doesn't work

  • Blank page or "Something went wrong" after authorizing: use a different browser without an ad blocker, allow pop-ups for Shopify and TikTok, remove the channel once and add it again.
  • A second Shopify store ends up connected to the wrong TikTok account: The connection uses whichever account you're currently logged in to TikTok with in your browser. Log out first or use a private browser window.
  • Seller Center suggests paid connector services: You don't need them with the official TikTok app in Shopify. Products come in through the Shopify channel, not through an import in Seller Center.
  • Nothing helps: According to Shopify, TikTok operates and supports the channel itself. Use "Get Support" in the TikTok app in Shopify or the support in Seller Center.

The same app also installs the TikTok pixel for ads. How it works with the cookie banner is covered in the article Setting up tracking in Shopify.

Products, orders and returns

Which products are synced

Shopify syncs the products you make available on the TikTok channel. So you don't have to show your whole range. That matters if individual products would violate TikTok's policies. You make the selection via your products' sales channel availability in Shopify.

You'll find rejected products, with the reason, under Sales channels > TikTok in the "Product status" section. Common causes: missing weight, missing category, images that are too small, prohibited categories or advertising claims TikTok doesn't allow. If products remain rejected despite corrections, Shopify refers you to TikTok support, because TikTok manages the sync.

Empty warehouse or shipping information in TikTok usually comes down to the location. According to Shopify's setup help, TikTok requires a valid warehouse address and phone number; otherwise no products are synced. The "warehouse" in TikTok is therefore your Shopify location you ship from. Check under Locations whether the address and name meet the requirements and whether the products have inventory assigned to that location.

If the products are in the TikTok catalog but not in the shop, they're usually still under review or have been rejected. If the sync hangs for days without a rejection reason, only TikTok support can help.

What happens with orders?

According to the Shopify Help Center, a TikTok Shop order is created in your Shopify admin if inventory is available. Without inventory, no order is created. You fulfill the order in Shopify as usual, with a tracking number. That way it also reaches your fulfillment partner or your dropshipping app, if they're hooked up to Shopify orders.

Cancellations, refunds and returns, on the other hand, are handled in TikTok Seller Center, not in Shopify. Build that into your workflow, or your inventory and bookkeeping won't match.

Dropshipping and digital products on TikTok Shop

Dropshipping is technically possible, because the order arrives in Shopify and goes from there to the supplier. The process is the same as in your own store; see What happens after your first dropshipping order. The problem is delivery time: TikTok measures shipping and cancellation rates and restricts sellers who miss them. With suppliers from China and two to three weeks' delivery time, you'll hardly survive there. With a warehouse or supplier in Germany or the EU, your chances are better.

As far as we know, digital products such as PDFs or templates are not supported on TikTok Shop. The shop is designed for physical goods with shipping. Check TikTok's product policy for Germany before you try. For digital products, the route via videos and a link to your store is usually easier; see Selling digital products with Shopify.

Growing organically and TikTok ads

Yes, you can sell on TikTok without an ad budget. Regular videos with a product link (on TikTok Shop) or a link in bio (for your own store) are the core. What works:

  • Post regularly: one simple video a day is better than one elaborate video a week. You can't plan going viral; many attempts increase your chances.
  • The first two seconds: show a result, a problem or a surprising action, not your logo.
  • Product in use: before and after, unboxing, everyday situations. Faceless works if your hands and the product are the focus.
  • Creators via the affiliate program: On TikTok Shop, creators can promote your product for a commission. For shops without their own reach, this is often the fastest lever.
  • Live shopping: works well for products that need explaining or are collectible.

Other people's viral videos are not a shortcut: without permission, you may neither upload them nor run them as ads, on TikTok or on Meta. That infringes copyright and often personality rights too; what's allowed is covered in the article Product images, copyright and trademarks.

Creators who are paid for a video or receive a free product must label the post as advertising. How that works and how to win creators without a budget is covered in the article First sales without an ad budget.

When TikTok ads make sense

According to TikTok's help on budgets, a campaign needs a daily budget above $50 and each ad group above $20 (the euro amount may differ). A test over one or two days says little at that level; plan for a week instead. It's best to promote videos that already performed well organically, rather than building new ads from scratch. For a comparison with Meta, read Facebook ads for Shopify.

You run ads in TikTok Ads Manager, a separate ad account alongside TikTok Shop and your profile. If the Shopify app shows "no account", create an ad account there first. The budget applies to the ad group or campaign, not to each ad; TikTok distributes it across the ads within it by itself. If an active campaign spends nothing, there's often no balance or valid payment method, or the ad is still under review.

If TikTok Ads Manager shows 100 clicks but Shopify shows significantly fewer sessions: that's normal. Many users drop off before the page has loaded in the TikTok browser, and without cookie consent, Shopify doesn't count every visit. A fast-loading store narrows the gap.

FAQ

Can you connect TikTok with Shopify in Germany?

Yes. Germany is an official TikTok Shop market, and according to the Shopify Help Center, Germany is a supported store location for the integration. You need a registered business, a TikTok for Business account and must comply with TikTok's product policies. Even without TikTok Shop, you can use the TikTok app to install the pixel and run ads that lead to your own Shopify store.

Do TikTok Shop orders land in Shopify?

Yes, provided the ordered product has available inventory in Shopify. The order then appears in the Shopify admin with a TikTok order ID and is fulfilled there as usual. That way you can also pass it on to a fulfillment provider or your dropshipping app. Cancellations, refunds and returns, however, must be handled in TikTok Seller Center, not in Shopify.

Why don't my Shopify products appear on TikTok Shop?

Usually the product isn't available on the TikTok channel, TikTok's review is still running or the product was rejected. Check in Shopify under Sales channels, TikTok, Product status. The rejection reason is shown there, for example missing weight, missing category or a prohibited product type. New products often need a few hours after syncing before they're approved.

Can I use TikTok Shop in Austria or Switzerland?

According to TikTok, TikTok Shop has been available in Austria since June 15, 2026. Whether the Shopify integration has already been enabled for Austrian stores is best checked in the TikTok app in Shopify, because the country list in Shopify's help center did not yet include Austria when we checked. Switzerland is not among the TikTok Shop markets so far (as of October 2026).

How many followers do I need for TikTok Shop?

According to Händlerbund, as a business in Germany you don't need a minimum number of followers to open a TikTok Shop. Follower thresholds apply to creators who want to promote other sellers' products via the affiliate program and earn commissions. Followers are still helpful for your shop's reach, but TikTok also shows videos to people who don't follow you.

Is it enough to post regular videos and put the store link in my bio?

To start, yes. Many shops sell their first products exactly this way, without an ad budget. The downside: every extra click costs buyers, and not everyone visits your profile. With TikTok Shop, viewers can buy directly in the video. A good approach is to test organically which videos work, and only then add TikTok Shop or ads.

Do I have to keep posting new TikTok videos to sell?

For organic sales, yes, at least regularly, because every video is a new chance at reach. It doesn't have to be daily; a fixed rhythm you can keep up for months achieves more than two weeks at full throttle. If you don't want to film at all, that leaves creators via the affiliate program or paid ads. You don't need an active profile for ads, but a few videos of your own make your profile look more trustworthy to visitors.

As of: October 2026. TikTok frequently changes fees, countries and requirements. The information in TikTok Seller Center and the Shopify Help Center is binding.
